Dear house, I really hope you enjoyed the thorough cleaning that you received this weekend. Savor it. It will be the last one for a long while, since we know housework neglect is inevitable during the busy school year. Even if I have a little extra time to clean you, you will be the last on my to do list.
Dear bank account, aren't you excited about getting full paychecks again?!? And don't forget about additional master's pay this year! Woo hoo!
Dear future house, I hope you appreciate all the money that I put into my savings account for you this summer. Babysitting for 3 families and tutoring 5 students kept me very busy, and I did it all for you.
Dear future puppy, I think about you a lot, especially when I see adorable pups in our neighborhood. You are going to be very loved and spoiled. We've already brainstormed names and we send each other cute pictures online. First, we just have to work on getting a house big enough for you. Soon, little doggy, soon.
Dear students, I'm looking forward to meeting you soon! I have a strong feeling that you will be A) adorable, B) very well behaved, and C) super duper smart.
Dear bed, I miss you already. I'm going to try REALLY HARD again this year to stick to a 10pm bedtime. It should be much easier without those pesky grad school classes every week!
Dear Matty, thank you in advance for dealing with me on nights when I'm too tired to do anything except lay on the couch. Thank you for helping out with dishes and trash and laundry when I'm too busy. Thank you for agreeing to a few nights of ordering pizza or eating out when I don't have the willpower or energy to cook. Thank you for eating alone on nights when I have Meet the Teacher or other school events.
Dear grad school friends, I will definitely miss you, but I'm so glad we can connect via Facebook. I know that none of us will miss those 3 hour classes after teaching all day....and I surely won't miss all that driving time.
Dear books, I hope I can still find some time to read you.
Dear summer babysitting families, I am going to miss you SO much. Your babies are so sweet and I loved every second that I spent holding them & playing with them.
Dear NC legislature, I am very disappointed in you. We're gonna shine this year despite all of the terrible decisions that you made this summer. I hope you realize the mistakes you've made and work hard to correct them as soon as possible.
Dear student teacher, get ready for lots of work and lots of fun! We're gonna have a blast together and I have so many things I want to teach you! I hope you teach me a few things along the way, too.
Dear parents of my students, I am so thrilled to get to love on your babies every day. Please be kind & understanding and know that I work VERY hard for VERY little pay. Please know that your child is one of 20-24 students in my room. Please be patient. Please be involved. Help your children with their homework. Read to them every night. Come see me on Literacy Night & Math Night. Invite me to your child's special events -- I'd love to join you!
Dear Mrs. T, thanks so much for coming to school on your own time to help me rearrange furniture in our classroom yesterday! It looks fabulous and I couldn't have done it without you!
Dear body, I am sorry that you are so sore from the first workday of the year yesterday. Hopefully there won't be any more heavy lifting for a long time and you can just focus on paperwork and planning from here on out. :)
Dear self, you are going to ROCK this mini professional development session on Monday and the following sessions in September. You have put a lot of work into this, and your coworkers will be thankful!
Dear National Boards, please don't kill me. I really don't want to deal with you, but the 12% pay increase is just too good to pass up.
Dear kindergarten team, we're the best around and I can't wait to see you all again soon! Let's make the best of those 25 minute lunch breaks, kay?
